2016 ADAC TCR Germany Roundup…

There are quite a few domestic series kicking off in 2016 after the success of the 2015 TCR International Series and the 2015 TCR Asia Series. One domestic series that has a lot of interest this year is the ADAC TCR Germany Series.

Now considering Germany is already known for having the legendary DTM series as its top level Tintop series, there has been a lot of interest in the German TCR series and during 2016, The Tintop Guru blog will post regular updates as to how this series is progressing.

In this post, here are the updates for the first two rounds of the series: Oschersleben and Sachsenring…



The opening round of the ADAC TCR Germany’s maiden season will take place at the Oschersleben Motorsport Arena. This is certainly one of the most highly-anticipated TCR national series, given the size of the market and the key role that the country plays in the automotive scene.

Oschersleben will host the first of the seven events; the series will later visit the Sachsenring, Oschersleben again, the Red Bull Ring in Austria, the Nürbrugring, Zandvoort in the Netherlands and Hockenheim. Together with the ADAC GT and the ADAC Formula 4 series, the ADAC TCR Germany will offer a terrific race weekend package, freely accessible to fans at home thanks to SPORT1’s live coverage.

The field for the opener will consist of 18 drivers at the wheel of three models of cars: SEAT León (11), Volkswagen Golf Gti (5) and Honda Civic (2).

Some among them have international experience, such as Austria’s Mario Dablander, Switzerland’s Ronny Jost, Netherlands’ Bas Schouten and UK’s Josh Files.

One of the most eagerly-awaited German drivers is Tom Lautenschlager who will drive one of the Golf cars of Liqui Moly Team Engstler. Not yet 18-years-old, Tom is the great-grandson of Christian Lautenschlager, one of the heroes of pre-Formula 1 Grand Prix racing. A works driver for Mercedes, Christian won twice the ACF Grand Prix, in 1904 and 1914, and also competed in great races such as the Targa Florio and the Indy 500.



Josh Files, of Target Competition, won the inaugural race of the ADAC TCR Germany today at Oschersleben.

On a track still damp after a morning shower, Files sprinted from the fifth position on the grid and was able to steer away of troubles at the start. While pole sitter Steve Kirsch’s Honda Civic missed the braking point at the end of the pit straight and rejoined at the back, the Volkswagen Golf of Tim Zimmermann stalled on the grid and was collected by the SEAT León of Mike Beckhusen.

Benjiamin Leuchter took the leadership in the Racing One Volkswagen Golf Gti, followed by a platoon of SEAT Cars, with Pascal Eberle in second position, closely followed by Files, Bas Schouten and Harald Proczyk.


Files overtook Eberle during the first lap and then closed the gap from Leuchter; eventually the Briton took the lead with a brilliant overtaking manoeuvreon lap 11 of 17 and pulled away to cross the finish line with a 3.8-second margin. Leuchter and Eberle completed the podium, while Proczyk stole fourth place from Schouten and Kirsch recovered to eighth after his mistake at the start.



Target Competition driver Josh Files gave an encore at Oschersleben, adding a win in today’s Race 2 to the one he had claimed yesterday in the inaugural round of the ADAC TCR Germany.

Finland’s Antti Buri sprinted at the start from pole position on the top-ten reverse grid and took the lead, while Kai Jordan, who was sharing the front row with Buri, stalled his engine and rejoined at the back.

The race was disrupted a first time by the safety car when Pascal Eberle beached his SEAT in the gravel trap during the first lap. When the race resumed, Buri was leading from Jürgen Schmarl, Files and Harald Proczyk. Meanwhile, Benjamin Leuchter was recovering from its eight starting position.

After overtaking Schmarl on lap 5, Files was catching Buri, but the Finn had to pay a drive-through penalty for an infringement during the safety car intervention and dropped to the back.

A second safety car period ensued when Tom Lautenschlager went off and hit the barriers. When the race resumed, Files was leading from Proczyk, Schmarl and Leuchter. The latter tried in vain to steal third place from Schmarl. Files scored his second win of the weekend, while Buri recovered up to ninth.


The next race meeting of the ADAC TCR Germany will take place at the Sachsenring on April 30/May 1.



HP Racing’s Harald Proczyk claimed a lights-to-flag victory in the third round of the ADAC TCR Germany at the Sachsenring. After setting pole position in this morning’s qualifying, the Austrian driver took the best start and led for the whole 20-lap race.

Behind him, drama hit the championship leader, Target Competition’s Josh Files, who drove very wide off the track and dropped from second to sixth. Soon afterwards, Files made contact with his own teammate Jürgen Schmarl whose car remained beached onto the gravel trap prompting the safety car intervention. Mario Dablander was also involved in the incident and rejoined at the back of the field, while Files pitted and retired.

The race resumed on lap 5, with Proczyk followed by Antti Buri and Steve Kirsch; on the same lap, Bas Schouten lost fifth place to Mike Halder and sixth to Pascal Eberle.
The positions seemed frozen until Kirsch made a mistake in lap 16, handing third to Tim Zimmermann and fourth to Halder. However, Kirsch was able to retake fourth from Halder on the following lap. Schouten provided the last thrill, overtaking Eberle for sixth.
Proczyk won from Buri in a SEAT 1-2, while Zimmermann’s Volkswagen claimed the last podium position and Kirsch’s Honda was classified fourth.


Prozcyk took also the championship lead with 60 points, five ahead of Files.



In the second race at the Sachsenring, Antti Buri and his SEAT León of LMS Racing took their maiden victory in the ADAC TCR Germany. The young Finn took the leadership on lap 3 and was able to defend his position from the recovering Volkswagen Golf Gti of Benjamin Leuchter.

The race provided plenty of overtaking manoeuvres, swapping positions and clashes, with groups of cars fighting door-to-door, including a four-way battle for the lead between Buri’s SEAT, the two VW cars of Leuchter and Tim Zimmermann and the Honda Civic of Steve Kirsch.

At the start René Münnich sprinted from the pole on the top-ten reverse grid and took the lead from Mario Dablander, Jürgen Schmarl and Buri, while Kay Jordan (third on the grid) stalled the engine.


During the opening lap Buri and Leuchter moved up to third and fourth ahead of Schmarl. On lap 2 Buri overtook Dablander for second and, on the following lap, he took the lead from Münnich. During the next two laps Münnich was further demoted to fifth from Leuchter, Tim Zimmermann and Steve Kirsch.

The race was disrupted by the safety car on lap 7 to recover Pascal Eberle’s SEAT that was stranded onto the gravel after a collision with Jordan’s Volkswagen. After two laps of safety car, the race was red-flagged for cleaning the track. It eventually resumed behind the safety car with ten minutes left on the clock.


On lap 12, Race 1 winner Harald Proczyk climbed from seventh to fifth, passing Josh Files and Münnich. The last lap saw Leuchter closely chasing Buri, while Zimmermann was defending the third place from Kirsch and Proczyk. Eventually Buri won with a small margin on Leuchter with Zimmermann third from Kirsch and Proczyk; on the finish line Files stole sixth from Dablander.

Prozcyk retained the championship lead with 70 points, with Files (63) second and Leuchter (58) third.


The championship will resume on 18 and 19 June at Oschersleben for rounds 5 and 6 that will be in the frame of the TCR International Series event.
